In 2026, the growth logic of the fabric foreign trade industry has shifted from "price competition" to "category competition", and functional fabrics have fully entered the popularization stage, becoming the core engine driving foreign trade exports. With the improvement of consumers' demand for health and safety, and the decline in the cost of fabric technology, functional fabrics such as antibacterial, cool feeling, UV protection and four-way stretch have penetrated from the outdoor sports field to daily life scenes, and the foreign trade demand for related products has continued to rise. UPF50+ sunscreen fabrics, cool feeling fabrics and antibacterial underwear fabrics have become hot categories for overseas procurement.
The core of foreign trade competition for functional fabrics has shifted from a single material advantage to "certificate system + data visualization". Overseas buyers have increasingly strict requirements for certification such as UPF test reports, antibacterial rate data and rubbing fastness grades, and complete testing and certification have become the key to transactions. Domestic technological research and development provides support for the export of functional fabrics. The antibacterial rate of graphene modified fiber exceeds 99%, the expected production capacity of PLA fiber in 2026 will reach 350,000 tons, accounting for 42% of the world, and the penetration rate of new functional fibers has reached 23.7%, which has become the core grasp for Chinese fabric enterprises to achieve differentiated competition.
From the perspective of market demand, the European and American markets are the core demand areas for functional fabrics, with particularly prominent demand for sun protection, antibacterial, water repellent and other functions, and at the same time require products to be matched with environmental certifications such as GRS and OEKO-TEX; the Middle East market prefers light and breathable functional fabrics, focusing on the product characteristics of non-see-through and dark colors; the Latin American market has a strong demand for high-elastic functional fabrics with high requirements for color saturation. Fabric foreign trade enterprises need to build a product system of "function + certification + scene" combined with the demand of regional markets, and at the same time display the functional effects of fabrics through short videos to improve the visual transaction power of products and seize the foreign trade outlet of functional fabrics.
